Super Cap, Super Saving

The onboard energy storage system (OBESS) with SuperCaps provides railway vehicles a reliable way to save enormous energy for daily operation and reduce railway operators’ impact on the environment. The Supercapacitor-based OBESS can collect the braking energy from the train by feeding it back to the network or storing it.

Our innovative system could lead to more than 25% energy saving in rail vehicles, at the same time reducing the peak power demand drastically to increase the effectiveness of energy use, cost savings and decarbonization of electrified transport due to reduction of CO2 emissions. With 72 67F-rated super-capacitors, a train vehicle can save 0.7GWh energy power and reduce 550 tons of emission of CO2 every year.

Features and Value Proposition

Saving energy & saving The Earth

Many railway trains are still without any form of energy regeneration. It results in high CO2 emissions, extra operation cost, and additional maintenance costs caused by heavy wear on brakes and transmission components. OBESS can create global impact on your green mission from energy recovering and CO2 reduction accordingly.

Decrease of peak demand

OBESS can provide a dramatic reduction of the peak power demand. It reduces not only the energy consumption of the vehicle but also reduces power losses in the infrastructure, which go with the square of the current. The mass transit operator can reduce substations by increased substations distance

Longer life of braking system

The heavy wear out caused by frequent temperature cycles  will be reduced by energy collected during the braking process. It will enlonger life cycle for breaking system by estimated 25%.  It will decrease time in the garage due to brake maintenance, and increase availability of units and option of increased frequency.

Catenary free for operation & IoT

The OBESS allows the vehicle to move without
external power supply. This can be used in emergency as operation during power loss, for example, to excavate the passenger from tunnels. The catenary free operation allow independent movements within depots or workshops without power supply. It also provide power for deployed IoT system after service.
